Cakesmash FAQs

Cakesmash Session FAQs

What can I expect from my session?

A lot of mess and some really cute images! We begin the session with a mini-portrait session with some of my props, followed by the cake smash and ending with the clean up in the tub with some bubbles.

When should I book my session?

If you want your pictures to display at their birthday celebrations, share on social media on the day or for invitations I recommend booking 4-6 weeks before their birthday to allow enough time for editing and ordering.

How do we reserve a slot?

To secure your slot, a non-refundable 50% advance deposit is required and the balance is due on the day of the portrait session.

Will I get to choose the theme?

We will work together to create a custom theme for your baby. There is so much we can do and it is all about personal preference. If you don’t feel you are particularly creative I will guide you to choose a theme that will be amazing!

Do we need to bring anything?

Before your session we will have discussed a custom theme for your child’s session so there may be elements of this you need to bring with you on the day but this will be discussed on an individual basis as will change from session to session.
You will have to bring a towel for your baby, in addition to their own bath gel (for the bubble bath bit) if their skin is very sensitive. Please also bring a spare change of clothes for yourself as you’re likely to get messy from the cake along with your baby.

Do you provide the cake for smashing?

Cake is provided by you. I will guide you about bakeries, size and design of cake based on the chosen theme and your budget.

Can my baby’s older siblings be included in the session?

We will definitely do family photos at the beginning of the session if that’s the package you have selected. However during the actual cakesmash, siblings and dad need to have gone home as it can be quite overwhelming for baby if they stay for the entire duration of the session.  It is recommended that they leave as soon as family portraits are done so the mom and I can concentrate on the baby.

How long does a session last?

Sessions will last 1 hour.

Do you share images on social media?

I do. If you would prefer your images not to be posted on social media, that’s totally fine, please just let me know before your session.

How long does it take before we can see the photos?

My usual turnaround time for digital photos is anywhere within 3-4 weeks of your session date. Prints, frames and heirloom photobooks will be delivered after this according to their different time frames, as they are outsourced.

How do we receive our order?

You will receive them via a dropbox link from where it is an easy, one-click download of all the hi-res images from your session.
